Stratham is a quiet and laid back town located in the rural area of New Hampshire. During the time when farming was the community’s mainstay, and even today, Stratham is more of a suburb than a commercial town’s center. Stratham economy is based on the earnings of several small and large businesses and the Stratham Industrial Park. A majority of these businesses are located in shopping centers that include supermarkets, buildings made from brick or mini malls that are wood-framed.
One of the most important aspects of Stratham, New Hampshire is education. There are a number of private owned preschools located in the community, including a Montessori school and a Memorial School that is supported by the community. Stratham is also home to one of the seven New Hampshire Community Technical Colleges.
Youth recreational programs are never lacking in Stratham, as the community has various recreation programs for the youth including soccer, basketball, softball and baseball; all of which are managed by a volunteer recreation director. Also in great demand are the recreation fields at the municipal center, Memorial School and the Stratham Hill Park.
Every year on one weekend in July, Stratham comes alive with its craft displays, 4-H shows and prize farm animals’ displays which are held at the Stratham Hill Park. This causes thousands of tourists to flock Stratham each year. The park is named after the highest land point in the community which is Stratham Hill. The hill has a fire tower which allows you to take in all the beautiful views of the surrounding area, including Mount Washington. During winter time, several families enjoy sledding down the slopes of the hill.
The 2000 census reported that Stratham had a population of 6,355 persons, of which there were 1,743 families and 2,306 households. Per square mile (162.4/km2), there were 420.6 people; there were also 2, 371 housing units with an average of 156.9 people per square mile (60.6/km2).
